The Derry River
The Derry River rises north of Tinahely and flows through Shillelagh before entering the Slaney at Kildavin. It is primarily regarded as a spawning river for the Slaney and holds small brown trout averaging six ounces. The river is very overgrown and is rarely fished except by a few local anglers.

The Derreen River
The Derreen River rises north of Hacketstown in Co Carlow at Lugnaquila Mountain, flowing southwest to meet the Slaney below Tullow. The river holds occasional salmon in the spring. Upstream is better known as a trout river, the average size of the trout is around 0.5 lbs, and it can sometimes produce fish of 3 lbs. The best of the fishing is from March to June.

The Ow or Aughrim River
Flowing from the picturesque village of Aughrim to join with the River Avoca, near Woodenbridge, this river is deep and wide holding plenty of wild brown trout. Expect to catch fish up to 1lb.
